The DoNotSell App has officially launched as a new technology platform designed to help individuals and businesses protect valuable items from theft, reduce fraudulent transactions, improve ownership verification, and limit the circulation of stolen or disputed property.

The platform was developed in response to increasing concerns around theft, online scams, fake vendors, stolen goods, ownership disputes, and the growing risks associated with modern digital and peer-to-peer transactions.

For many people, valuable items are not purchased easily. They are acquired through patience, discipline, and sacrifice. When such items are stolen, the impact can be deeply personal and financially damaging. A source of income is stolen because of a thief or fraudulent vendor, or a life savings vanishes because you bought stolen property. In many cases, there are two victims: the person who lost their property, and the person who unknowingly bought it.

If thieves cannot resell what they steal, the incentive to steal drops dramatically.

The DoNotSell App was built on a simple but powerful idea: Make stolen property almost impossible to sell. The App enables users to verify whether an item or property has been reported as not-for-sale, stolen, or flagged for suspicious activity by its original owner before making payments, purchases, or transfers. The verification system supports a broad range of valuables including phones, electronics, vehicles, gadgets, equipment, real estate, and other transferable assets.

The App also includes a reporting feature known as “Blacklist,” which allows users to report fraudulent vendors, suspicious sellers, or individuals repeatedly connected to deceptive transactions. According to the developers, the feature was designed to strengthen accountability and help users identify potential risks before engaging in transactions.

Speaking on the launch, Co-founder Michael Nene said the platform was created to address the growing lack of trust affecting everyday commerce.

“People are losing money daily through fake vendors, disputed ownership claims, fraudulent listings, and stolen property changing hands multiple times before the truth is discovered. We wanted to create a platform that helps people verify what they are buying, who they are dealing with, and whether an item has been previously flagged before transactions happen,” he said.

Co-founder Olusoji Shitta said verification and accountability systems are becoming increasingly important as commerce continues to move across digital, informal, and peer-to-peer channels.

“One of the major reasons stolen items continue to circulate is because they can often be resold easily. A practical step towards reducing theft is to eliminate the incentive to steal by making it nearly impossible to sell stolen items, and by holding fraudulent vendors accountable. The future of commerce will rely heavily on trust, transparency, and verification. Our focus is on building practical tools that help users reduce avoidable risks and make more informed transaction decisions,” he said.

The platform also incorporates a recovery support process that allows users who identify suspicious ownership activity during verification to discreetly notify rightful owners, improving the chances of tracing disputed or stolen property.

Developers behind the platform say future updates will continue expanding the platform’s verification, reporting, and recovery capabilities to support safer transactions for individuals, businesses, retailers, and marketplace users.
