United Bank for Africa (UBA) has appointed Chioma Mang as CEO of UBA Africa 1, with oversight of operations in Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, and Mozambique

Mang, a seasoned banker with nearly three decades of experience in treasury, corporate finance, operations, retail and corporate banking, business development, and risk management, joined UBA in 1999. She has held senior roles across the group, including Regional Director for Victoria Island in Lagos, Nigeria; MD/CEO of UBA Liberia from 2011 to 2016, where she repositioned the subsidiary and navigated challenges like the Ebola crisis; and MD/CEO of UBA Gabon from 2016, leading a turnaround that earned the subsidiary multiple “Banker of the Year” awards from The Banker magazine (Financial Times) from 2016 to 2019.

She most recently served as Executive Director for East Bank at UBA. Mang holds an LLB (Hons) in Law from the University of Reading, UK, and an LLM in Commercial & Corporate Law from University College London (UCL). She is called to the Nigerian Bar and has attended various executive management programs.

In her LinkedIn post, Mang expressed excitement about the role, stating: “I’m pleased to share that I have been appointed CEO, UBA Africa 1, with responsibility for operations across Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, and Mozambique.

Over the course of my career, I have had the privilege of leading and repositioning multiple African banking operations for higher and more consistent returns, while building resilient teams and institutions that deliver impact. These efforts have been recognized globally, including subsidiaries winning Best Bank awards by the Financial Times of London.
As I take on this role, my focus remains clear: driving sustainable growth, strengthening customer trust, empowering our people, and delivering long-term value across the markets we serve.
I look forward to working closely with our teams, partners, and stakeholders as we continue to deepen UBA’s impact across Africa.”

The post received over 537 comments, mostly congratulations, reflecting her influence in the banking sector. UBA, Africa’s global bank, operates in 20 African countries and has a presence in the UK, US, France, and UAE.
