Nigeria Targets 5,000 Globally Certified Youths Through New Digital Skills Programme

The Federal Government has launched a new digital skills initiative aimed at training 50,000 Nigerian youths, with a target to produce at least 5,000 globally certified and job-ready young professionals within the first six months.

The programme is a partnership between the Nigerian government, the United Arab Emirates, and The Digital School (TDS). It focuses on equipping young people with in-demand digital skills to improve their chances in both local and international job markets.

According to government officials, the initiative will address the growing need for digital talent in Nigeria. Many young Nigerians currently struggle to find work that matches global standards because they lack recognised certifications. This programme seeks to change that by offering high-quality training that meets international benchmarks.

The first phase will focus on producing 5,000 certified youths. Training will cover key areas in the digital economy, such as digital tools, data skills, and other competencies needed for modern jobs. The long-term goal is to reach 50,000 beneficiaries as the programme scales up.

Officials say the partnership with the UAE and The Digital School brings world-class training methods and certification standards to Nigeria. Implementation will involve collaboration with agencies like NITDA and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to reach youths across different parts of the country.

This move forms part of broader efforts to fight youth unemployment and position Nigeria as a competitive player in the global digital economy. With a large youth population, the government believes investing in digital skills is one of the fastest ways to create opportunities and reduce joblessness.

Many young Nigerians are expected to benefit from the programme through better access to remote work, freelancing on global platforms, and employment in local tech-driven businesses.

The initiative is already generating interest as authorities begin enrolment and awareness campaigns. Follow-up support such as internships and gig economy opportunities are also being planned to help trained youths turn their new skills into real income.
