Ethio Telecom and the African Development Bank (AfDB) have strengthened their partnership to accelerate Ethiopia’s digital transformation and expand access to reliable connectivity across the country.

The two organisations signed a new agreement focused on modernising telecommunications infrastructure, expanding broadband coverage, and supporting digital inclusion, especially in rural and underserved communities. The partnership will also support the rollout of advanced technologies including 5G, fibre optic networks, and digital services.

Officials say the collaboration will help bridge the digital divide and create new economic opportunities for millions of Ethiopians. Better internet access is expected to boost sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and small businesses.

Ethio Telecom’s CEO noted that the partnership with AfDB aligns with Ethiopia’s national digital agenda and will play a key role in connecting more citizens to the digital economy. The AfDB, on its part, described the move as a strategic investment in Ethiopia’s future growth and development.

This latest agreement builds on previous successful collaborations between Ethio Telecom and the AfDB. It comes at a time when Ethiopia is pushing hard to expand digital services and attract more investment in the technology sector.

For ordinary Ethiopians, the partnership is expected to bring faster internet, more reliable mobile services, and new digital tools that can improve daily life from mobile money and e-learning to better access to government services.

The deepened partnership reflects growing confidence in Ethiopia’s digital future and the important role of strong institutions like Ethio Telecom in driving national development.

Further details on specific projects and timelines are expected to be released in the coming weeks as implementation begins.
