Kenyan digital banking startup Cloud9 has acquired ticketing platform Mtickets in a deal reportedly valued at about $773,000, as the company pushes to expand beyond traditional banking services into lifestyle and event financing.
The acquisition is part of Cloud9โs broader strategy to combine digital banking, payments, and entertainment services into one integrated ecosystem for African consumers.
Mtickets, founded in 2014, has processed more than one million tickets and built a strong presence in Kenyaโs digital events market. By bringing the platform into its ecosystem, Cloud9 gains direct access to event transactions, consumer spending data, and entertainment-focused financial services.
According to both companies, the goal is to remove friction from the event experience by integrating ticketing, payments, and credit solutions for organisers and consumers alike.
Cloud9 also plans to introduce financing products for event organisers, including credit solutions to help fund logistics, manage cash flow, and reduce operational risks tied to large-scale events.
The move reflects a growing trend across Africaโs fintech ecosystem, where startups are increasingly expanding into adjacent services to deepen customer engagement and create โsuper appโ style ecosystems that combine multiple financial and lifestyle offerings in one platform.
Cloud9 was founded by Tesh Mbaabu, who previously co-founded MarketForce and ChpterAI. The company positions itself as a mobile-first digital bank targeting younger African consumers looking for faster and more integrated financial experiences.
Industry observers say the acquisition could strengthen Cloud9โs position in East Africaโs rapidly evolving fintech and digital entertainment sectors, especially as demand grows for seamless digital payment experiences tied to lifestyle services.
