Early-stage startups across Africa can now apply for up to €100,000 in non-dilutive funding as the develoPPP Ventures Ideas Competition 2026 officially opens for applications.

The programme is backed by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) and is designed to support startups that already have traction and are ready to scale across emerging markets.

It targets innovation-driven companies in countries including Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, and Tanzania, with a focus on sectors such as ClimateTech, AgriTech, HealthTech, and EdTech.

How the funding works

Unlike traditional equity investments, the programme provides non-dilutive capital of up to €100,000, meaning selected startups will not be required to give up ownership.

However, it operates on a 1:1 matching model. Applicants must have raised an equal amount of private funding within the last six months to qualify.

Eligible startups must also be privately owned, for-profit companies with a minimum viable product (MVP) and proven revenue traction. Firms that have already raised more than €2 million are not eligible.

Purpose of the programme

The initiative, managed by GIZ and DEG Impulse, aims to help startups transition from early-stage traction to sustainable growth, particularly those solving development challenges in African markets.

It is also part of broader efforts to support innovation that contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Application timeline

Applications for the 2026 cohort are open until June 30, 2026.

For startups seeking growth capital without losing equity, the programme offers a structured pathway that combines public development funding with private investment support to accelerate expansion.
