Zoyk has entered a strategic partnership with Visa to launch new interoperable digital payment solutions aimed at accelerating financial inclusion and modernising money movement across Zambia and the wider Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

The partnership, officially launched at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka, introduces the ZoykPay Visa Direct Account and Wallet platform. This solution integrates Visa Direct technology with local mobile money platforms, bank accounts, merchant wallets, agent networks, and Visa cards into a single seamless ecosystem.

Key Features of the Partnership

The new platform enables:

  • Real-time person-to-person (P2P) transfers
  • Faster merchant payments
  • Simplified cross-border remittances and business payments
  • USSD, mobile app, and agent-assisted payment options

This integration is expected to reduce reliance on cash transactions and improve the speed and security of both domestic and international payments in Zambia.

Supporting Zambia’s Cashless Agenda

Chembo Sumbwe, Chief Commercial Officer at Zoyk, described the partnership as a major milestone for digital payments in the country. He noted that it will particularly benefit small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which make up over 97% of businesses in Zambia, by giving them access to more efficient and secure payment tools.

Viveka Govender, Visa’s Head of Money Movement for Southern and Eastern Africa, emphasised that the collaboration combines Visa’s global expertise with Zoyk’s deep understanding of the local market. She highlighted that the partnership positions Zambia as an emerging hub for real-time cross-border account-to-account and wallet-based payment flows in the SADC region.

The move supports the Zambian government’s broader ambition to build a cashless economy and strengthen digital financial infrastructure. By bridging traditional banking systems with mobile money and international payment networks, the solution aims to make financial services more accessible to both urban and rural populations.

This partnership comes at a time when digital payment adoption is accelerating across Africa. For Zoyk, the collaboration significantly expands its capabilities and reach, while for Visa it strengthens its footprint in Zambia’s growing fintech ecosystem.

The Zoyk-Visa partnership is now live, with both companies expected to roll out additional features and expand merchant and consumer adoption in the coming months.
