MTN Uganda has introduced a new rewards programme to encourage parents and guardians to pay school fees through digital channels, aiming to make fee payments more convenient while promoting cashless transactions in the education sector.

The initiative, dubbed “School Fees Rewards”, allows parents who pay school fees using MTN Mobile Money to earn loyalty points and other incentives. These rewards can be redeemed for airtime, data bundles, or cashback, providing added value to families already using the platform for everyday transactions

The programme is designed to address common challenges parents face with traditional fee payment methods, such as long queues at banks and schools, security risks associated with carrying cash, and delays in payment confirmation. By shifting to MTN MoMo, parents can complete payments instantly from their phones at any time.

MTN Uganda believes this rewards system will accelerate the adoption of digital school fee payments, benefiting schools through faster and more transparent collections while reducing administrative burdens.

Schools partnered with the initiative will also enjoy improved cash flow management and better record-keeping through automated digital receipts and reconciliation tools.

This latest move aligns with MTN Uganda’s ongoing efforts to deepen financial inclusion and digital transformation across the country. The company has been actively working with educational institutions to integrate mobile money solutions into their operations, making fee payments, salary disbursements for teachers, and other transactions more efficient.

Parents who register for the rewards programme will receive regular updates on available offers and can track their accumulated points through the MTN MoMo app.

MTN Uganda’s Managing Director noted that education remains a top priority for many Ugandan families, and the company is committed to using technology to make essential payments easier, safer, and more rewarding.

The School Fees Rewards initiative is now active and open to all MTN MoMo users paying fees to participating schools. More educational institutions are expected to join the programme in the coming months as digital payment adoption continues to grow.

This development reflects the increasing role of mobile money in transforming everyday financial activities in Uganda, particularly in critical sectors such as education.
