Airtel Tanzania has signed a major partnership with Chinese technology giant Huawei to significantly improve network stability and expand digital connectivity across the country.

The collaboration aims to deliver faster, more reliable mobile internet and voice services to both urban and rural areas of Tanzania. Under the agreement, Huawei will provide advanced network equipment and solutions to help Airtel modernise its infrastructure.

Airtel says the partnership will focus on upgrading its 4G network while laying a strong foundation for future 5G rollout. The move is expected to reduce frequent network drops, increase data speeds, and improve service quality for millions of Tanzanians.

Poor network coverage and unstable internet have been long-standing challenges in many parts of Tanzania, especially in rural communities. This partnership is seen as a major step toward solving those problems and supporting the country’s digital economy goals.

The two companies will work together on expanding fibre infrastructure, improving data centres, and introducing new technologies that can handle growing demand for mobile money, e-learning, telemedicine, and digital services.

Airtel Tanzania’s leadership described the deal as a game-changer that will benefit customers through better experience and more affordable data. Huawei, which already has a strong presence in Africa, says it is committed to supporting Tanzania’s ambition of becoming a digitally connected society.

This latest development comes as African telecom operators continue to invest heavily in infrastructure to meet rising demand for reliable internet. For ordinary Tanzanians, the partnership promises stronger signals, fewer frustrations, and greater access to opportunities in the digital world.

The project is expected to roll out in phases, starting with major cities before reaching smaller towns and rural areas.

Both Airtel and Huawei believe this collaboration will play a key role in Tanzania’s digital transformation journey in the coming years.
