Airtel Africa has released its Sustainability Report 2026, demonstrating significant advancements in digital inclusion, education, and financial services across its 14 markets in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The report shows the company’s continued commitment to leveraging mobile technology and digital solutions to address key social and economic challenges while supporting long-term sustainable development on the continent.

Airtel Africa made notable progress in several areas during the year. The company expanded its mobile money services, Airtel Money, reaching millions of new users and enabling greater financial inclusion, particularly in rural and underserved communities. Digital financial services have become a major driver of economic participation, allowing small businesses and individuals to access payments, savings, and credit more easily.

In education, Airtel Africa scaled its digital learning initiatives, providing students and teachers with affordable data packages, educational content, and connectivity solutions. The company supported various programmes aimed at improving digital literacy and bridging the education gap in remote areas.

The telecom operator also strengthened its efforts in digital inclusion by expanding network coverage into previously unconnected regions and offering tailored products that make mobile internet more accessible and affordable to low-income users.

Beyond connectivity and digital services, the report outlines Airtel Africa’s environmental and governance initiatives, including energy efficiency improvements across its network infrastructure and community development projects that support local economies.

The company emphasised its role as a responsible corporate citizen, aligning its business operations with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to quality education, gender equality, reduced inequalities, and partnerships for sustainable development.

Airtel Africa’s CEO, Segun Ogunsanya, noted that the company remains focused on using technology to create meaningful impact while maintaining strong business performance. The sustainability efforts are integrated into the core strategy, ensuring long-term value creation for all stakeholders.

With operations in 14 countries, Airtel Africa continues to play a vital role in the continent’s digital transformation journey. The 2026 Sustainability Report reflects a year of solid execution on social and environmental commitments despite challenging macroeconomic conditions in several markets.

As Africa’s digital economy expands, initiatives like those highlighted in the report are expected to contribute significantly to job creation, skills development, and broader economic growth.
