Vodacom Foundation has launched a new School of Excellence in Mpumalanga as part of its continued efforts to expand digital inclusion and improve education outcomes in underserved communities across South Africa.

The initiative, officially unveiled recently, aims to provide learners with access to high-quality digital education, modern learning tools, and skills development programmes that prepare them for the digital economy.

The School of Excellence model focuses on integrating technology into teaching and learning, offering students access to computer labs, high-speed connectivity, digital content, and teacher training. It forms part of Vodacom Foundationโ€™s broader strategy to bridge the digital divide and support the South African governmentโ€™s efforts to modernise basic education.

Mpumalanga was chosen for this latest launch due to its specific challenges with digital access and education infrastructure in rural areas. The new school is expected to serve as a centre of excellence, benefiting not only enrolled students but also surrounding schools through shared resources and training programmes.

Vodacom Foundation has been actively involved in education projects across South Africa for many years, including device donations, connectivity solutions, and digital skills training. The School of Excellence concept builds on these efforts by creating dedicated technology-enabled learning environments.

The launch comes at a time when digital literacy is increasingly recognised as a critical requirement for future employment and economic participation. By investing in digital infrastructure within schools, Vodacom Foundation hopes to equip young people with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.

This initiative aligns with South Africaโ€™s National Development Plan and the Department of Basic Educationโ€™s goals of improving learner outcomes through technology integration.

The Vodacom Foundation said the School of Excellence in Mpumalanga represents a long-term commitment to digital inclusion. Plans are reportedly underway to expand the model to other provinces in the coming years.

This latest project reinforces Vodacomโ€™s role as a key corporate player supporting education and digital transformation in South Africa, particularly in provinces where access to quality digital resources remains limited.
