KnowBe4 has launched Defend for Google Workspace, bringing its AI-driven email and collaboration security platform to Gmail and related Google tools. The release targets advanced phishing, business email compromise and AI-enabled attacks that can slip past native Google controls.
At the core of the product is a multi-engine behavioral AI model trained on more than 1.15 billion daily event signals and 16 years of behavioral data. It evaluates messages across multiple intent signals to detect threats such as zero-payload phishing, BEC and prompt injection attacks. Once a malicious variant is confirmed, Defend integrates with KnowBe4’s PhishER Plus to automatically locate, recall and neutralize matching threats across enterprise Gmail inboxes, typically in under two minutes.
In an early-adopter program, the system processed 539,384 emails and intercepted 810 dangerous threats roughly one in every 666 messages plus 5,491 suspicious threats that had already passed Google’s native protections.
KnowBe4 Defend was previously focused on Microsoft 365 environments, including integrations with Microsoft Defender and Teams. The Google Workspace version extends the same detection, real-time coaching and automated response capabilities to organizations running Gmail. It will be available from 15 September 2026 to KnowBe4 customers across SMB, mid-market and enterprise segments.
The company positions the product as a complement to existing platform security rather than a full replacement. Real-time “teachable moments” are designed to coach users at the point of risk, reinforcing the firm’s broader human-risk-management approach.
Email remains the primary vector for social engineering and credential theft. As Google Workspace continues to grow in both consumer and enterprise use, specialized detection layers that focus on behavioral and intent signals address gaps left by standard spam and malware filters. Early results suggest the system can surface threats that reach inboxes, though long-term effectiveness will depend on detection accuracy, false-positive rates and seamless integration with existing security operations workflows.
