ZTE Corporation has joined forces with Damane Cash, a leading Moroccan digital payments provider and subsidiary of Bank of Africa, to help modernise and scale the country’s digital financial services ecosystem.

The partnership was announced at GITEX Africa Morocco 2026 and aims to enhance mobile payments, digital wallet capabilities, and overall financial inclusion across the North African nation. ZTE, a global leader in telecommunications and technology solutions, is bringing its advanced infrastructure, secure payment platforms, and digital transformation expertise to support Damane Cash’s expansion.

Damane Cash, already active in providing electronic payment solutions including its Damane Pay app, will leverage ZTE’s technology to improve transaction speed, security, and scalability. The collaboration is expected to enable better mobile money services, seamless peer-to-peer transfers, merchant payments, and broader adoption of cashless solutions for both consumers and businesses.

This move aligns with Morocco’s ongoing national push toward a less cash-dependent economy. The government and financial institutions have been actively promoting digital payments to increase financial inclusion, reduce cash handling costs, and support economic digitisation. Initiatives such as equipping small merchants with electronic payment tools have gained momentum, and partnerships like this one are seen as key accelerators.

For Damane Cash, the tie-up with ZTE strengthens its technological backbone without having to build everything internally. It allows the company to roll out more sophisticated features, handle higher transaction volumes, and offer enhanced user experiences, critical as smartphone penetration and digital adoption continue to rise in Morocco.

ZTE gains a stronger foothold in Morocco’s growing fintech sector, building on its existing presence in telecommunications infrastructure across Africa. The partnership reflects the Chinese tech giant’s strategy of collaborating with local players to deliver tailored solutions that meet regional regulatory and market needs.

The timing is strategic. Morocco has seen increasing activity in digital payments, with recent partnerships in sectors like pharmacies and ride-hailing platforms. By combining ZTE’s global-scale technology with Damane Cash’s local market knowledge and regulatory compliance, the two companies aim to make digital payments more accessible, secure, and reliable for millions of Moroccans.

While specific technical details and financial terms of the deal were not publicly disclosed, both parties described the collaboration as a long-term strategic alliance focused on innovation in mobile financial services.

As Morocco continues its digital transformation journey, this partnership could play a meaningful role in expanding everyday use cases from everyday shopping and bill payments to remittances and small business transactions. For users, it promises smoother, faster, and safer ways to manage money in an increasingly connected economy.

The ZTE-Damane Cash alliance is another sign of how global technology providers and local fintech players are teaming up to drive Africa’s digital payments revolution, one market at a time. In Morocco’s case, it could help accelerate the shift from cash to digital, supporting broader goals of financial inclusion and economic modernisation.
