Google has introduced the Fitbit Air, a simple and lightweight fitness tracker without a screen. Priced at $99.99, the new device went on pre-order on May 7, 2026, and aims to make 24/7 health tracking more comfortable and affordable for everyday users.

The Fitbit Air looks similar to the Whoop band. It focuses on continuous monitoring of heart rate, sleep, and recovery data that users can check on their phones.

The device is small and thin, designed to be worn all day and night without feeling bulky. It has advanced sensors for tracking steps, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep stages, heart rhythm alerts, and more. Battery life lasts up to a week.

Google says the Fitbit Air is for people who want health insights without the distractions of notifications or a bright screen. It uses gentle vibrations for feedback and sends detailed information straight to the Google Health app on both Android and iOS phones.

A three-month trial of Google Health Premium comes with the purchase. The optional subscription adds AI-powered coaching, personalised workout plans, and deeper insights. Basic tracking works without any subscription.

The Fitbit Air comes in different band colours and styles. Pre-orders are available now, with shipping expected to start on May 26, 2026. A special edition linked to basketball star Stephen Curry is also offered at a higher price.

This is Google’s first new Fitbit hardware in a while. It shows the company’s push into simpler, always-on wearables that compete directly with devices like Whoop. Many people find traditional smartwatches too big or complicated for constant wear. The Air offers a lighter option focused purely on health data.

The Fitbit Air is now available for pre-order on the Google Store and other retailers. It joins Google’s growing line of health tools aimed at helping Africans and people worldwide stay active and informed about their well-being.
