Geidea, a leading fintech company in the Middle East and Africa, has partnered with UnionPay International to launch the region’s first dual-card routing capability, marking a significant advancement in payment technology across MEA.

This innovative solution allows merchants to automatically route UnionPay cards through the most optimal network in real time. It improves transaction success rates, reduces costs, and delivers faster, more reliable payment processing for both local and international customers.

Previously, handling UnionPay cards in the MEA region often involved limitations in routing and acceptance. With this new dual-card routing technology, Geidea’s merchants can now seamlessly accept UnionPay cards alongside other major card schemes, offering broader payment flexibility while optimising every transaction.

The partnership is expected to greatly benefit the growing number of Chinese tourists, business travellers, and residents in the Middle East and Africa who prefer using UnionPay cards. Merchants, especially in retail, hospitality, travel, and e-commerce, will enjoy higher approval rates and a smoother customer experience.

Geidea and UnionPay described the launch as a regional milestone that strengthens cross-border payments and supports the continued digital transformation of the MEA market. The technology also aligns with the region’s push to attract more international visitors and boost tourism and trade with China.

This collaboration further solidifies Geidea’s position as a leading payment solutions provider in the region and demonstrates UnionPay’s commitment to expanding its footprint in fast-growing markets across the Middle East and Africa.

For businesses, the new capability means fewer declined transactions, lower processing fees in many cases, and the ability to serve a wider customer base without extra complexity. As cross-border travel and trade between China and MEA countries continue to rise, solutions like this dual-card routing are set to become increasingly valuable.

The launch is now available to Geidea’s merchant network, with expectations of rapid adoption across key markets in the region.
