Ghana Digital Centres Limited is focusing on rebuilding stronger and more profitable operations after severe flooding disrupted its Accra facility in late June.
The flooding on June 29 damaged offices, equipment, and infrastructure at the tech hub, affecting 23 businesses and causing significant financial losses. Management initially suspended staff contracts due to safety concerns and operational halts, but the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations directed a reversal of the decision.
Deputy CEO Christine Adwoa Agyapomaa Ansong detailed the extent of the damage, including submerged offices, destroyed laptops, furniture, and other assets. Recovery efforts are underway, with emphasis on preventing future incidents through improved infrastructure and advocacy for better urban drainage.
The Accra Digital Centre serves as a key government-supported ICT and business process outsourcing hub, hosting startups, tech firms, and supporting youth employment. Officials have highlighted the need to enhance resilience while maintaining the centreโs role in Ghanaโs digital economy ambitions.
No specific financial impact figures or long-term profitability targets were disclosed. The incident underscores broader challenges with climate-related disruptions to critical digital infrastructure in the capital.
Ghana Digital Centres Limited continues to prioritise restoration and long-term sustainability to support the countryโs innovation ecosystem.
