Amazon has launched a new Alexa+ feature that allows users to generate personalised podcast-style audio episodes on demand using artificial intelligence.
The feature, called Alexa Podcasts, lets users ask Alexa+ to create podcast episodes on almost any topic, ranging from news and history to hobbies, sports, music, and educational content.
According to Amazon, users do not need to upload documents or prepare scripts before creating an episode. Instead, Alexa+ researches the topic, presents a summary of what the episode will cover, and allows users to adjust the length, tone, and direction before the final audio is generated.
The finished episodes are narrated using AI-generated host voices designed to sound conversational, similar to traditional podcast co-hosts. Users receive notifications through Echo Show devices and the Alexa app once the episodes are ready.
Amazon said the feature is powered by information sourced from more than 200 news organisations and media outlets, including Reuters, Associated Press, The Washington Post, Forbes, Politico, TIME, and USA Today.
The company says the tool is part of its wider effort to transform Alexa+ from a standard voice assistant into a more advanced AI-powered content and productivity platform.
The launch also places Amazon in growing competition with other AI companies developing podcast-style audio tools, including Google’s NotebookLM and Microsoft’s AI-powered audio features.
While the feature has generated excitement around personalised learning and entertainment, it has also raised concerns about AI-generated media, including questions around accuracy, creator rights, and the future of traditional podcast production.
Amazon said Alexa Podcasts is currently rolling out to Alexa+ users in the United States.
