My Journey into Tech by Villpress is a storytelling hub that highlights real-life experiences of people transitioning into the tech world, their challenges, breakthroughs, and the paths that shaped their careers. Today, we’re excited to feature the inspiring tech journey of Adaeze Elizabeth Adeteye.

I never imagined I would one day pursue a path in cybersecurity. My journey began with curiosity. I’ve always been drawn to understanding how systems, processes, and people work together. Over time, that curiosity quietly laid the foundation for a future I didn’t yet see coming.

My early career in business operations and data privacy opened my eyes to something profound: in today’s world, technology is the engine behind everything. Every workflow, every decision, and every customer experience depends on secure and reliable digital systems. As I worked across strategy, operations, and data protection, I found myself consistently leaning toward the technical side of the work.

The shift into cybersecurity happened organically. Working in a fast-paced fintech environment gave me a front-row seat to how deeply technology shapes business. I supported API testing, sprint demos, product reviews, user support, and improvements in internal processes. It was here that cybersecurity moved from theory to reality for me. I saw firsthand that “innovation cannot exist without protection,” and that secure systems are the backbone of trust.

With the support of my organization, I pursued the Data Protection Officer Certification and earned a 92%. That achievement wasn’t just a milestone, it was confirmation. I realized that protecting information, strengthening systems, and promoting digital safety were more than responsibilities; they were the work I wanted to commit to.

But I knew that to fully step into cybersecurity, I needed deeper technical competence. So, I began my structured learning journey at New Horizons, taking my first formal steps toward technical mastery. Not long after, I received an opportunity that accelerated everything: selection for the TechCrush Tech4Africa Cohort 4 Scholarship, where I gained practical skills in encryption, network security, operating system security, forensics, and incident response & management. They didn’t just teach me cybersecurity, they helped shape me into someone who can analyze threats, understand vulnerabilities, and contribute to building resilient systems.

Now, as I transition fully into becoming a Cybersecurity Analyst, my journey feels perfectly aligned. Every experience has strengthened my ability to see cybersecurity not just as a technical field, but as a strategic and human one.

If there’s one truth my story reflects, it’s this:

“You don’t need to come from tech to thrive in tech.
You just need curiosity, courage, and the consistency to keep going.”
