CNN International Commercial and Dangote Industries Limited are expanding their relationship through a new multiplatform campaign designed to put African industrialisation, business and economic transformation in front of CNN’s global audience.

The partnership includes sponsorship of Africa Inc., a new half-hour programme on CNN International that will examine African companies competing and expanding on the global stage. CNN has confirmed that the show will be hosted by British-Nigerian journalist Adefemi Akinsanya and will focus on businesses across sectors including technology, hospitality, manufacturing and entertainment.

Africa Inc. will premiere on CNN International on August 29, with four additional episodes scheduled through 2026 and into 2027. CNN has also said that shorter Africa Inc. segments will run twice a month across CNN International, supported by digital and social content on CNN.com.

The programme is being positioned around a broader shift in how Africa’s economic story is presented: not simply as a continent with emerging markets, but as a region whose companies, consumers and innovators are increasingly participating in global commerce.

Akinsanya joins CNN from Arise News, where she was an international correspondent and anchor based in Lagos. Her previous experience includes work with Al Jazeera, Reuters, Sky News and TRT World. CNN said she will remain based in Lagos.

Dangote’s Africa First narrative moves onto a global media platform

Beyond Africa Inc., the announcement outlines a wider branded-content programme called Africa First, produced by CNN International Commercial’s in-house studio Create.

According to the partnership announcement, the content will focus on Africa’s progress in areas including energy independence and economic transformation, using human-led films, data-driven digital stories and social formats to feature Dangote’s industrial activities as an example of the continent’s changing economic landscape.

That positioning is closely aligned with Dangote’s broader Vision 2030 strategy. The company has described the strategy as an effort to expand industrial capacity and strengthen Africa’s ability to produce more of the goods and energy it consumes. Earlier this year, Dangote outlined targets including expanding its refinery capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day, increasing fertiliser production to 12 million tonnes annually and taking cement production capacity toward 90 million tonnes by 2030.

The significance of the CNN partnership therefore extends beyond conventional advertising. For Dangote, it creates a global storytelling platform around a corporate narrative that increasingly connects its Nigerian operations with a wider argument about African industrial capacity, value addition and economic self-sufficiency.

For CNN, the partnership comes as the network expands its programming and events around Africa’s growing role in the global economy. Its Global Perspectives franchise began with an Africa-focused edition in November 2025, bringing together political, business and economic leaders to examine the continent’s position in global growth.

Dangote also joins CNN’s Global Perspectives events

The collaboration extends beyond television and digital publishing.

CNN has separately confirmed Dangote as a sponsor of Global Perspectives: In Doha, scheduled for October 29, 2026. The company was announced as the first additional sponsor of the Doha edition, with branding and activation at the event and advertising alignment with related CNN content.

Dangote has also been announced as one of the first sponsors of Global Perspectives: In Bangkok, which is scheduled for October 14. CNN said sponsors will have branding and activation opportunities at the event alongside promotional and advertising alignment with Global Perspectives content across CNN platforms.

The events are designed to bring together political leaders, executives, investors and other influential figures to discuss forces shaping the global economy, technology, geopolitics and culture.

The supplied partnership announcement says Dangote will participate as a sponsor across three editions of Global Perspectives over the coming 12 months. CNN’s public announcements reviewed for this report independently confirm the company’s sponsorship of the Doha and Bangkok editions, but do not yet identify a third edition.

A different kind of Africa story

The partnership comes at a time when African companies are increasingly seeking visibility beyond the continent, particularly as investors, governments and multinational companies pay closer attention to Africa’s manufacturing capacity, energy markets, consumer growth and infrastructure needs.

Dangote’s own expansion illustrates that shift. The group’s businesses span cement, fertiliser, refining and petrochemicals, while its Vision 2030 strategy places greater emphasis on expanding industrial capacity and developing businesses that can serve markets across Africa.

The CNN collaboration gives that corporate strategy an international media narrative. Rather than focusing solely on individual projects, the campaign seeks to connect Dangote’s expansion with a larger story about whether African companies can build at sufficient scale to influence global supply chains and reduce the continent’s dependence on imported finished products.

Cathy Ibal, Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales at CNN International Commercial, said the partnership reflects a shared ambition to highlight innovation, resilience and leadership emerging from Africa.

Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer at Dangote Industries Limited, said the collaboration supports the company’s global brand-positioning drive and its Vision 2030 strategy.

For CNN, the relationship also gives the network a commercial partnership around a subject it is increasingly building editorial and events programming around: Africa’s changing position in the global economy.

For Dangote, it offers something different from conventional corporate advertising, sustained access to a global media platform through programming, digital storytelling and high-level international events.

The first Africa First branded content is scheduled to launch this week, while Africa Inc. will make its television debut on CNN International on August 29.
