The task explicitly stated \u201cNo pickup or delivery required.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Waymo and DoorDash both confirmed to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/villpress.com\/goto\/https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/02\/12\/waymo-is-asking-doordash-drivers-to-shut-the-doors-of-its-self-driving-cars\/\">TechCrunch<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/villpress.com\/goto\/https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/12\/waymo-is-paying-doordash-gig-workers-to-close-its-robotaxi-doors.html\">CNBC<\/a> that the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/villpress.com\/goto\/https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/DoorDash_Dasher\/comments\/1r170zc\/craziest_offer\/?share_id=-Q9fJkDiV5VLbNB2mHnnT&amp;utm_content=1&amp;utm_medium=ios_app&amp;utm_name=ioscss&amp;utm_source=share&amp;utm_term=1\">Reddit post<\/a> is legitimate and that the door-closing gig is a real pilot program launched earlier in 2026 to improve fleet efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the rare event a vehicle door is left ajar, preventing the car from departing, nearby Dashers are notified, allowing Waymo to get its vehicles back on the road quickly,\u201d the companies said in a joint statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Waymo\u2019s autonomous vehicles will not move if any door remains open, a safety feature that has created an operational headache when riders forget to close them. Previously, the company relied on towing services such as Honk in Los Angeles, which reportedly cost $22\u2013$24 per call. Using nearby DoorDash drivers is a much cheaper and faster workaround.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pilot is currently limited to Atlanta, but similar arrangements may expand to other Waymo cities.
