The discussions are ongoing, and the terms of the deal could still change.

If completed, the funding would mark another milestone for the Los Angeles based company, which has emerged as one of the fastest growing players in the global live commerce industry. Whatnot allows users to buy and sell products through live video streams, combining entertainment with ecommerce across categories including fashion, collectibles, sneakers, luxury goods, electronics and vinyl records.

The reported fundraising comes less than a year after Whatnot raised $225 million in a Series F financing round that valued the company at $11.5 billion. That round was backed by investors including DST Global, CapitalG, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Greycroft and Alkeon Capital.

Business Insider reported that sellers on the platform generated approximately $8 billion in live sales over the past year, highlighting the company’s rapid expansion despite a venture capital market that has largely favoured artificial intelligence startups. The platform has also broadened its marketplace by introducing dozens of new product categories and investing in AI driven product discovery and recommendation systems.

Whatnot’s growth reflects the increasing adoption of live commerce outside Asia, where livestream shopping has become a multibillion dollar industry. While platforms such as TikTok Shop have accelerated consumer interest in social commerce, Whatnot has built its business around community driven buying experiences, particularly among collectors and enthusiasts.

The reported fundraising also suggests investors remain willing to place sizeable bets on high growth consumer technology companies despite a broader slowdown in venture capital activity. A successful round at a $20 billion valuation would place Whatnot among the world’s most valuable privately held ecommerce startups.

However, the transaction has not been finalised. Business Insider noted that negotiations remain ongoing, meaning the valuation, investment size or participating investors could change before any agreement is completed.

For investors, the reported fundraising will be closely watched as an indicator of venture capital sentiment beyond the AI sector. It may also provide insight into whether live commerce can continue attracting significant institutional backing as consumer shopping habits increasingly shift toward interactive digital experiences.

Live shopping startup Whatnot is in talks to raise a new funding round that could value the company at around $20 billion, according to a report by Business Insider, a significant jump from its $11.5 billion valuation achieved in its most recent financing round.
