Ethiopia has rolled out a comprehensive Integrated Airport and Border Security Management System as part of efforts to strengthen national security, enhance border governance, and modernise travel infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new intelligence-driven platform, which incorporates advanced technologies including artificial intelligence and real-time data sharing, aims to tackle terrorism, human trafficking, smuggling, and other cross-border crimes more effectively. It aligns with the country\u2019s broader Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy for technological transformation in governance and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials from the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS)<\/a> and relevant agencies highlighted the system\u2019s role in improving coordination between airports and land borders, enabling faster threat detection, passenger screening, and operational efficiency at key entry points such as Bole International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative builds on previous collaborations with international partners, including upgrades to migration information systems like MIDAS, and is expected to facilitate legitimate trade and travel while tightening controls against illicit activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A high-level policy dialogue recently concluded with the adoption of a roadmap for integrated border management, underscoring Ethiopia\u2019s commitment to balancing security with economic development in the Horn of Africa region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stakeholders believe the system will significantly boost Ethiopia\u2019s capacity to manage its extensive borders and growing aviation traffic, contributing to regional stability and improved investor confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
