SMART Zambia has successfully finished its Training of Trainers programme on the Smart Office Application. The initiative is designed to help government workers across the country use digital tools more effectively in their daily tasks.

The programme brought together selected officers from different ministries and departments. These officers are now expected to train their colleagues, creating a ripple effect that will spread digital skills throughout the public service.

Participants spent time learning how to use the Smart Office Application, a platform that allows users to manage documents, approvals, and office processes electronically. Instead of moving physical files from one desk to another, officers can now handle most work online. This is expected to reduce paperwork, cut down on delays, and make government services faster for ordinary citizens.

Trainers focused on practical skills during the sessions. Officers learned how to upload documents, track workflows, set up approvals, and maintain security on the system. The hands-on approach ensured that participants gained confidence to teach others when they return to their workplaces.

This training forms part of Zambia’s larger push towards digital transformation in government. For many years, public offices have depended heavily on paper-based systems, which often cause slow service delivery. The Smart Office Application is one of the tools introduced to change this situation and bring public institutions into the digital age.

By training a core group of officers first, SMART Zambia is using a cost-effective method to reach more people without organising too many centralised workshops. Once these trainers return to their stations, they will support their teams in adopting the new system.

The move is especially important as Zambia continues to improve e-governance. Digital tools like this can help reduce corruption risks, increase transparency, and allow citizens to enjoy better services in areas such as licensing, permits, and other government processes.

Officials at SMART Zambia described the completion of the programme as a significant step forward. They believe that wider use of the Smart Office Application will help create a more efficient and responsive public service.

The organisation plans to continue supporting the trained officers with follow-up sessions and technical assistance as they begin rolling out the training in their respective institutions.

This latest development shows Zambia’s commitment to using technology to solve everyday governance challenges and improve how government serves its people.
