French telecoms group Orange has deepened its partnership with Egypt, pledging training grants for around 200,000 people in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity and allocating €25 million to support startups working in AI and advanced technologies.
The commitments were announced following a meeting in Cairo between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Orange Group CEO Christel Heydemann. The discussions also involved Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology and senior Orange executives.
Orange said it will provide training grants covering AI and cybersecurity, with pathways to internationally recognised professional certifications. The company also committed to equipping a number of Egyptian universities with modern technology laboratories so students can gain practical experience with current digital tools.
The €25 million allocation is earmarked for startups operating in artificial intelligence and other advanced technology fields. The support is intended to help early-stage companies develop and scale solutions within Egypt’s digital economy.
President El-Sisi emphasised the need to strengthen cooperation on preparing young Egyptians for future labour market demands, highlighting specialised training in AI, data analytics, cloud computing and cybersecurity. Talks also touched on potential collaboration related to the second phase of Egypt’s national digital health project, drawing on Orange’s experience in digital infrastructure, cloud computing, cybersecurity and systems integration
The announcement builds on Orange’s existing presence in Egypt’s telecommunications and digital services market. It comes amid wider government efforts to expand digital skills, including recent training partnerships with other global technology firms.
By combining large-scale skills programmes, university laboratory support and targeted startup capital, the expanded cooperation aims to strengthen both the talent pipeline and the early-stage innovation ecosystem around AI and advanced technologies in Egypt.
