Reddit<\/strong><\/a> users can now take more control over their public footprint. On Tuesday, the company announced a new update that allows users to hide specific content, like posts and comments, from appearing on their public profiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This long-requested privacy feature is part of Reddit\u2019s \u201cContent and Activity\u201d settings. It\u2019s designed to give users the ability to choose what content from their subreddit activity remains visible. Users can now manage the visibility of their posts and comments by community, helping them curate their online presence without deleting anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, all user activity was visible by default, pushing some users to create \u201cthrowaway\u201d accounts when discussing sensitive topics. With Reddit\u2019s new direction, especially after its IPO, the company appears to be aiming for more stable user identities that are ad-friendly, while still giving some level of content control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the new \u201cCurate your profile\u201d section, Reddit users can now selectively hide or display content from individual subreddits. This includes options to toggle on or off NSFW content, control who sees follower counts, and manage what appears on a user\u2019s main profile page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The feature does not allow users to hide specific individual posts or comments. Instead, it works on a per-community basis. This simplifies the experience, making it easier to manage without going into detailed content sorting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Reddit reminds users that this setting doesn\u2019t offer complete privacy. Posts and comments still show up in the communities where they’re made, with usernames attached. Along with the privacy feature, Reddit introduced updated personal activity summaries. These summaries highlight a user\u2019s Karma, total contributions, account age, and their most active communities, based on the new visibility settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
