Meta Appoints Former Trump Adviser Dina Powell McCormick as President and Vice Chairman

Meta Platforms announced on January 12, 2026, that it has named Dina Powell McCormick as its new president and vice chairman, tapping the former Trump administration official and Goldman Sachs executive to help guide the companyโ€™s strategy amid major investments in artificial intelligence.

Powell McCormick, who served as deputy national security adviser under President Donald Trump from 2017 to 2018, will join Metaโ€™s management team and report directly to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. She previously sat on Metaโ€™s board of directors from April to December 2025.

โ€œDinaโ€™s experience at the highest levels of global finance, combined with her deep relationships around the world, makes her uniquely suited to help Meta manage this phase of growth as the companyโ€™s President and Vice Chairman,โ€ Zuckerberg said in the announcement.

The appointment comes as Meta faces challenges with its AI efforts, including the underwhelming reception of its Llama 4 model, and aligns with a series of moves to strengthen ties with the Trump administration. Trump congratulated Powell McCormick on his Truth Social platform shortly after the news broke, calling her a โ€œfantastic, and very talented, personโ€ who served with โ€œstrength and distinction.โ€

Powell McCormick brings over two decades of experience in global finance, national security, and economic development. She spent 16 years at Goldman Sachs, rising to partner, and has held roles in philanthropy and international affairs. In her new role, she is expected to focus on strategic partnerships, policy, and boosting AI infrastructure buildout.
