But he also showcased just how easily such markets could be <strong>manipulated<\/strong>, especially when company insiders become aware of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">Industry Reactions: Amusement or Alarm?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While some found the moment humorous, others in the crypto investment community were not amused. <strong>Jeff Dorman<\/strong>, CIO at digital assets firm <strong>Arca<\/strong>, blasted the move on X (formerly Twitter), saying anyone who thought the stunt was clever \u201cneeds their head examined.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dorman expressed frustration that the act undermined years of effort spent convincing institutional investors that crypto is a legitimate, professional asset class. \u201cIt\u2019s not fun working tirelessly for eight years to educate investors, only for one of the supposed leaders to mock the industry with this kind of behavior,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Polymarket itself seemed to enjoy the chaos, calling Armstrong\u2019s actions \u201c<strong>diabolical work<\/strong>\u201d in a playful post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">Coinbase\u2019s Position and Future Plans<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, Coinbase has a growing connection to the <strong>prediction market ecosystem<\/strong>. The company has invested in both <strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/villpress.com\/goto\/https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/10\/10\/kalshi-hits-5b-valuation-days-after-rival-polymarket-gets-2b-nyse-backing-at-8b\/\">Kalshi<\/a><\/strong> and<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/villpress.com\/goto\/https:\/\/x.com\/shayne_coplan\/status\/1975567505834840503\"  ><strong> Polymarket<\/strong><\/a> and plans to support prediction markets through its upcoming <strong>\u201cEverything Exchange\u201d<\/strong> platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, a Coinbase spokesperson told Bloomberg that the company strictly prohibits employees from participating in prediction markets or engaging in any related activities involving company information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the uproar, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/villpress.com\/goto\/https:\/\/x.com\/brian_armstrong\/status\/1984048706220609998\"  ><strong>Armstrong took to X once again<\/strong><\/a>, writing, \u201c<strong>lol this was fun, happened spontaneously when someone on our team dropped a link in the chat.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His casual tone only added to the debate about whether such \u201cfun\u201d moments could undermine trust in crypto leadership.
