Flutterwave, Africa’s leading payments technology company, has partnered with Xoom, PayPal’s international money transfer service, to facilitate faster and more efficient cross-border remittances into Nigeria.
The collaboration, announced on July 9, 2026, allows Xoom customers in approximately 160 markets worldwide to send money directly to bank accounts in Nigeria. Flutterwave handles currency conversion and local settlement, enabling deposits into accounts at major banks including Access Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Zenith Bank, First Bank of Nigeria, Guaranty Trust Bank, and others.
Nigeria remains the largest remittance recipient in Sub-Saharan Africa, with personal remittances exceeding $20 billion annually. The partnership aims to reduce complexities such as foreign exchange constraints and settlement delays that have historically affected inbound transfers.
“We’re excited to have been chosen by Xoom for their Nigeria expansion,” said Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, founder and CEO of Flutterwave. “Millions of Nigerians rely on money from abroad to support everyday needs… This helps make it easy and more reliable for people in Nigeria to receive funds and stay connected to opportunities beyond borders.”
Xoom leverages PayPal’s global network, fraud protection, and compliance capabilities for secure transfers. The service also supports bill payments and mobile recharges in various markets.
The partnership connects Xoom’s international reach with Flutterwave’s local infrastructure and banking relationships, supporting Nigeria’s growing digital economy. The country’s ICT sector is projected to contribute significantly to GDP in coming years.
No specific timelines for full rollout or transaction fees were detailed in the announcement. The collaboration is expected to enhance accessibility for diaspora communities sending support to families, freelancers, and others in Nigeria.
