Telecom Namibia has announced the appointment of a new Board of Directors, which will take effect from June 2026 as the state-owned telecommunications company continues its strategic transformation.

The new board, appointed by the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, includes a mix of experienced professionals tasked with guiding the company through its next phase of growth, digital expansion, and operational efficiency improvements.

Ms. Patricia Hauuanga has been named Chairperson of the Board, alongside other members including Ms. Amanda Hauuanga, Mr. Rowan Kleintjies, Mr. Fernando Somaeb, Ms. Melanie Tjijenda, and Mr. Fimanekeni Petrus.

One of the immediate priorities for the incoming board will be the recruitment of a new Chief Executive Officer. Current CEO Dr. Stanley Shanapinda is set to leave the position on July 1, 2026, after being appointed Executive Secretary of the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia.

The new board is expected to focus on strengthening Telecom Namibia’s market position, accelerating fibre and 5G rollout, improving service quality, and exploring new revenue streams in a competitive telecommunications landscape.

Telecom Namibia, Namibia’s incumbent fixed-line operator, has been undergoing significant modernisation in recent years. The appointment of a fresh board comes at a critical time as the company faces increasing competition from mobile operators and works toward its goals of broader digital inclusion and infrastructure development across the country.

The move is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance governance and performance at state-owned enterprises. Industry observers expect the new board to bring fresh strategic direction while maintaining continuity in ongoing projects.

The appointments are effective from June 2026, with the new directors expected to assume their roles shortly thereafter. Further details regarding the full term of the board and specific mandates are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
